Big Changes Ahead: BVIHSA Unveils Strategic Plan, New Website, and Health Ambassadors
A bold vision for transformation, innovation, and client-centered healthcare in the Virgin Islands.
Road Town, Tortola – British Virgin Islands – July 17, 2025 – The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) marked a major milestone on Tuesday with the official launch of its 2025–2033 Strategic Plan, a comprehensive roadmap for building a stronger, smarter, and more resilient healthcare system in the Virgin Islands.
The launch event, held at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital, was attended by key government officials, stakeholders, and community members. It also saw the debut of BVIHSA’s refreshed brand identity, an upgraded website with patient portal, and the roll-out of an Ambassador Programme; signalling a bold new chapter in the Authority’s journey.
Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley, described the moment as both timely and transformative:
“This is not just a report. It’s a framework for transformation. It reflects the voices of the people we serve, the insight of our healthcare professionals, and the shared vision of a healthier Virgin Islands.”
A Vision Guided by Nine Strategic Priorities
The Strategic Plan identifies nine priorities that will guide BVIHSA’s work over the next eight years. These include:
Stronger Governance – Enhancing leadership stability and transparent, accountable decision-making.
Smarter Care Delivery – Fostering high-quality, client-centered care and preventive wellness.
Future-Ready Workforce – Recruiting, developing, and supporting a motivated healthcare team.
Digital Innovation – Advancing secure, efficient, and equitable technology-driven healthcare.
Modern Infrastructure – Creating safe, efficient, and fit-for-purpose healthcare environment.
Data & Discovery – Enabling evidence-based decision-making and ethical community health research.
Financial Strength – Driving financial planning, income diversification and cost efficiency.
Strategic Partnerships – Building relationships that enhance service delivery and health outcomes.
Resilience & Sustainability – Ensuring continuity through environmental stewardship and disaster readiness.
Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Ron Potter, emphasized that the Plan is already in motion:
“The Authority must work for all Virgin Islanders, across every island, every stage of life. This is our opportunity to refocus, realign, and transform.”
A New Look and New Tools
In addition to the Strategic Plan, BVIHSA unveiled a refreshed brand identity, reflecting its renewed commitment to excellence, innovation, and access. The new website, www.bvihsa.vg, is designed to reflect a renewed focus on accessibility, service, and connection; with easy to navigate service listings and contact information. Meanwhile, the secure patient portal takes it a step further, allowing users to view appointments, lab results, pay hospital bills and access their health record anytime, a leap forward in transparency and efficiency.
Acting CEO Dr. June Samuel called the moment a culmination of years of groundwork:
“This roadmap was shaped through deep listening and honest reflection. It’s built around people, patients, staff, and the communities we serve. We are building a future-ready organization with purpose.”
BVIHSA Ambassadors Announced
The Authority also introduced its inaugural group of Ambassadors, respected individuals selected to champion public awareness, health advocacy, and fundraising.
