Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands – June 29, 2026 – The British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) recently concluded a three-day Leadership Development Workshop for Nurse Managers, Nursing Supervisors, and Charge Nurses, reinforcing our commitment to strengthening care delivery through leadership excellence and continuous quality improvement.
Held from June 22–24, 2026, the workshop was delivered in partnership with Healthcare Transformation Solutions (HTS), a clinician-led healthcare consulting firm specializing in leadership development, healthcare transformation, and performance improvement.
The initiative forms part of BVIHSA’s strategic focus on enhancing patient outcomes by investing in the development of frontline healthcare leaders and leveraging strategic partnerships that build organizational capacity and support sustainable improvement.
Throughout the workshop, participants were equipped with practical tools to identify operational challenges, implement evidence-based solutions, strengthen team engagement, and lead quality improvement initiatives within their respective clinical areas.
Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Pearla Sylvester-Thomas, described the workshop as an important investment in the future of healthcare delivery. “Quality patient care begins with strong leadership. By equipping our Nurse Managers and Charge Nurses with the skills and tools to lead improvement initiatives, we are strengthening our ability to deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care across the organization.”
Chief Nursing Officer in the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Mrs. Jacinth Hannibal, welcomed the initiative as a meaningful step toward healthcare excellence. “Developing nursing leadership is critical to building a resilient healthcare system. This
partnership reflects a shared commitment to continuous improvement and better health outcomes for the people of the Virgin Islands,” she stated.
Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley, commended the collaborative effort. Hon. Wheatley announced, “Strategic partnerships such as this help position our healthcare system for long-term success. By investing in our healthcare professionals, we are ultimately investing in the quality of care provided to our community.”
As a key outcome of the workshop, participants developed action plans and unit-based improvement projects that will support ongoing efforts to enhance patient care, operational effectiveness, and staff engagement throughout BVIHSA.
