The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of Registered Nurse/Midwife (Community Health). Directly involved in the implementation of Family, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Program to include activities such as antenatal and postpartum care; normal deliveries; family planning; immediate care of the newborn management of post-partum hemorrhage immediate identification and referrals of complicated pregnancies/deliveries. Provides promotive, preventative, curative, and domiciliary care to clients and families within a defined Health area\ community. Participate in multi-disciplinary teams’ decision-making regarding the management of clients. Conduct community health assessments to identify and prioritize health problems and develop interventions. Assist in conducting disease surveillance (communicable and non-communicable).
Primary Responsibilities
The ideal candidate for this community health nursing position will demonstrate comprehensive clinical expertise, including the ability to provide high-quality antenatal, postnatal, and family planning care, along with managing normal deliveries and recognizing signs of complications requiring urgent referrals. They shall be proficient in conducting home visits, health education, immunization programs, and disease surveillance, ensuring all procedures are accurately documented and protocols followed. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for counseling clients on health issues, fostering collaboration with other healthcare professionals, and providing guidance and supervision to junior staff. The candidate will also be responsible for emergency response, maintaining medical supplies, cold chain management, and supporting research activities to improve healthcare delivery.
In addition to clinical competencies, the candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational and management skills, including maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, overseeing inventory, and ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards. They should actively participate in team meetings, continuous professional development, and community outreach efforts, contributing to the overall improvement of public health services. A proactive approach to identifying emerging health trends and managing immunization and disease control initiatives is vital, along with the ability to adapt to different roles within primary healthcare settings as needed to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care.
Qualification and Experience
The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor of Nursing degree and a Certificate in Midwifery, with a minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse Midwife in a community health setting. They must be registered and licensed with the General Nursing Council of the British Virgin Islands, as well as in their country of origin, and hold current BLS certification. The candidate should demonstrate a thorough knowledge of midwifery theory, procedures, and standards, along with the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care programs, perform assessments and triage, and develop educational initiatives. Strong organizational, decision-making, and communication skills are essential, particularly related to gynecological health issues and health education.
Physically, the candidate should be capable of moderate activity, including handling objects up to 21 pounds and working on their feet for extended periods, with flexibility to work 12-hour shifts and travel across community clinics. The role involves participating in home visits and working in a typical healthcare environment similar to other community health organizations. The physical demands are manageable and aligned with similar healthcare roles, requiring adaptability to ensure comprehensive coverage and patient care in diverse settings.
