The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants to apply for the position of Behavioral Health Aide. The Psychiatric aide works directly under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Unit Registered Nurses/Registered Mental Health Nurses and Psychiatrist assisting patients who are mentally ill, developmentally disabled, brain injured or have problems with substance abuse. To assist with routine activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming and eating. To provide companionship to patients and engage them in activities such as playing games, walking about the facility and watching television. Ensure safety while accompanying groups of patients on field trips and social activities outside the facility.

Primary Responsibilities

The ideal candidate for the Behavioral Health Aide position should be compassionate, patient, emotionally stable, dependable, and capable of following directions. They need to have a minimum of two years of experience working with patients, along with a High School Diploma or equivalent and Basic Life Support Certification. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, be able to work effectively as part of a team, and demonstrate a genuine desire to help individuals with mental illnesses. They should also be prepared to handle situations involving patients who may become violent, disoriented, or uncooperative, ensuring safety and proper care at all times.

In addition to these qualities, the candidate should be capable of assisting with routine activities such as personal hygiene, grooming, and medication compliance. They are expected to monitor and document patient behavior and vital signs, support de-escalation techniques, and participate in activities that promote patient well-being. The role requires minimal physical demands, but the candidate must be ready to respond promptly to emergencies, maintain a safe environment, and support staff in adhering to safety policies. Their responsibilities will also include maintaining cleanliness within the unit, ensuring supplies are stocked, and helping facilitate a safe, supportive environment for both patients and staff.

Qualification and Experience

The ideal candidate for the Behavioral Health Aide position should possess a High School Diploma or its equivalent, along with a minimum of two years of experience working with patients in a healthcare or behavioral health setting. They must also hold a valid Basic Life Support Certification, which is essential for responding effectively to emergencies and ensuring patient safety. The candidate should demonstrate compassion, patience, emotional stability, and dependability, with the ability to follow instructions carefully and work well within a team environment. Good communication skills and a genuine desire to help individuals with mental health challenges are crucial qualities for success in this role.

Furthermore, the successful candidate should have a thorough understanding of patient care routines, including assisting with personal hygiene, medication compliance, and monitoring vital signs. They must be prepared to handle situations involving patients who may become violent, disoriented, or uncooperative, ensuring safety for both patients and staff. Experience in applying de-escalation techniques and maintaining a safe, clean environment within the Behavioral Health Unit are also important. Job Summary

Salary Range:

$21,773.00 – $28,303.00 per annum
