Our Emergency Room Is Always Open

At BVI Health Services Authority, we understand that emergencies require fast, dependable care. That’s why our 24/7 emergency room offers high-quality treatment for a range of injuries and illnesses, providing lifesaving services for both adults and children. Our team of emergency specialists are equipped to handle a variety of conditions, including abdominal pain, asthma attacks, bleeding, burns, gynaecologic conditions, heart problems, high fevers, injuries, paediatric conditions, sepsis, strokes, trauma, wounds, and other severe medical conditions.

We are proud to offer a variety of emergency services at our hospital, including heart attack and stroke treatment. Recognizing the signs and symptoms of these conditions can help save a life. For heart attacks, symptoms include chest discomfort, upper body discomfort, indigestion, shortness of breath, and additional signs like cold sweats, nausea, or sudden light-headedness. For strokes, symptoms may include slurred speech, trouble walking or loss of balance, trouble seeing in one or both eyes, sudden severe headache, uneven smile or facial expression, and weakness or numbness in an arm.

If you’re unsure whether to go to the emergency room or wait for your doctor’s office to open, we’ve created a list of symptoms that may require emergency care. These include unbearable back pain, severe broken bones or visible deformities, crushing or squeezing chest pain accompanied by other heart attack symptoms, concussion with loss of consciousness, severe flu symptoms, severe side pain with fever or nausea, stomach pain with hard or tender stomach, trouble breathing with chest pain or severe shortness of breath. At BVI Health Services Authority, we’re here to provide the care your family deserves when they need it most.

In addition to our emergency services, our team is dedicated to providing the best possible care for every patient who comes through our doors. We understand that emergencies can be stressful and scary, which is why we prioritize compassionate care and clear communication with patients and their families.

Our state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest technology and equipment to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. Our emergency specialists work closely with other healthcare providers to coordinate care and ensure seamless transitions for patients who may require ongoing treatment or follow-up care.

What to Expect At The Emergency Room

Upon arrival at the emergency room, one of our triage nurses will evaluate your symptoms and vital signs. Then, a registration clerk will gather your insurance card (if available) and other necessary information.

Regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay, we provide medical screening, assessment, and stabilization for all patients. Patients with severe, life-threatening conditions will receive priority treatment, while others will be treated in the order of arrival.

Before leaving, we encourage you to communicate any questions or concerns to our emergency care teams. Additionally, it’s recommended that you keep all your discharge information, medications, and prescriptions together for easy access.

After your visit, our emergency department staff will contact your primary care provider to ensure they have up-to-date information regarding your care.
