About Mrs. Sylvester-Thomas

Mrs. Pearla Sylvester-Thomas is from Grenada, known as the Spice Isle. She began her education at the River Sallee Government School and continued at the Mt. Rose Seventh-day Adventist Comprehensive School.

Her nursing career began when she entered the Grenada School of Nursing on March 2, 1992. She graduated in 1995 with a Diploma in General Nursing and, in 1998, earned a Diploma in Midwifery.

On March 2, 2000, Mrs. Sylvester-Thomas arrived in the British Virgin Islands as a Registered Nurse. From 2000 to 2010, she worked in the Obstetric Unit, caring for mothers and newborns. In 2011, she attended the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Post-RN).

She later worked in several departments, including the Surgical Unit (2011–2013) and the Emergency Room (2013–2017), where she also served as Charge Nurse. In 2016, she began her Master’s degree at Walden University in Indianapolis, Indiana, specializing in Leadership and Management. After completing her studies, she worked as Clinical Care Coordinator from 2017 to 2019 and became Director of Nursing Services in 2019, a position she continues to hold.

Over the years, Mrs. Sylvester-Thomas has completed several professional training and certifications, including Change Management (UWI St. Augustine, 2025), Intermediate Life Support (BVIHSA, 2024), Lean Management (Caribbean Center for Organizational Excellence, 2023), Quality Management (Caribbean Center for Organizational Excellence, 2020), Assessment of First Level Care (2018), Mass Casualty Management (2016), and Charge Nurse Certification (2013).

She believes in providing safe and compassionate care, supporting her team, and promoting continuous learning. Her leadership has helped strengthen nursing standards and improve patient care across the British Virgin Islands.
