Dr. Arnel Soller has 20 years’ experience in pediatric care. He studied BS Zoology (4 years) and Doctor of Medicine (4 years) in University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, Philippines. His one-year post-graduate internship was completed in Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Philippines. During internship, he passed United States Medical Licensure Examination Steps 1 and 2, and Philippine Medical Board Licensure Examination.
His 4-year residency training to be a pediatrician was completed in National Children’s Hospital (250 bed capacity tertiary hospital), after which he passed his diplomate certification exam to legally practice as pediatrician and be registered in Philippine Pediatrics Society.
Aside from working in Philippines, he practiced pediatrics and pediatric intensive care in King Fahad Hospital, Al Hassa Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and pediatrics-neonatology in the Level 3 Neonatology Intensive Care Unit of Mt. Hope Maternity and Child Hospital in Trinidad & Tobago.
To update himself on current neonatology and pediatric practice, he regularly attended continuing medical live conferences in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, University of California-San Francisco and other top medical institutions in mainland US. He also participated regularly in on-line pediatric conferences by pediatric medical institutions in US. His knowledge on advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advance life support and neonatal advance life support are updated.
Since he being employed by the BVIHSA in 2008, Dr. Soller has participated in the establishment and implementation of mandatory BVI newborn screening, mandatory newborn discharge checklist, critical heart screening, pediatric specialist clinics in the community, Expanded Program of Immunization Manual, Operating Manual for Pediatric Specialist Clinic in the Community Clinics, Pediatric Out Patient Department Operating Manual, Neonatal Care Guideline Manual, and Acute Pediatric Care Guidelines. As member of the working group responsible for establishing national protocols during his time at BVIHSA, he worked closely with the Ministry of Health and Social Development to publish BVI Protocols on HIV/AIDS and STI Clinical Management for Pediatric Patients, Physical and Sexual Abuse in the Pediatric Population, BVI Early Intervention Programme and the Expanded Programme of Immunization Guidelines. He also drafted protocols and policies for standardizing clinical pediatric care, including for pediatric COVID-19 patients. He has been expert witness in cases of child sexual and physical abuses in BVI court. As Head of the Department, he is currently actively involved in several hospital committees and in the drafting and review of pediatric policies and procedures.
