BVIHSA launches online weight loss resource center
Tools To Combat Diabetes, Hypertension, and Kidney Disease
Tortola, British Virgin Islands – June 10, 2025 – The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has rolled out a first-of-its-kind digital platform aimed at turning the tide on diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease; three of the leading non-communicable diseases affecting the Virgin Islands.
The new Online Resource Center, now live at redloud.bvihsa.vg, marks a major shift in how health education and prevention tools are delivered to the public. Designed specifically with the needs of Virgin Islands residents in mind, the platform provides immediate, free access to a wide range of tools and information – making it easier for individuals and families to take charge of their health before complications arise.
The launch of the Resource Center comes at a critical time. Dialysis demand is outpacing resources; more residents are being diagnosed at younger ages, and obesity continues to rise. The center offers a direct response to this public health emergency, bringing prevention tools into homes, classrooms, and workplaces across the Territory.
Among its standout features is a dedicated children’s page – a rare inclusion in health portals – where young readers can learn about diabetes through a localized story. The goal is to build a generation that understands this disease’s risk early and is equipped to make better choices.
For adults, the platform is packed with hands-on resources that address obesity and lifestyle-related disease, including a BMI calculator, calorie counter, daily food tracker, protein and water intake calculators, and a step-by-step weight loss guide. Visitors will also find a full DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) toolkit, offering a practical nutrition plan proven to lower blood pressure, complete with recipes and a printable grocery list.
Physical activity isn’t left out. The site features U.S. activity guidelines, at-home workout tips, and tools to help residents build movement into their daily routines, even without gym access.
BVIHSA is encouraging schools, churches, community groups, and employers to promote the site and integrate its use into their wellness efforts. As the number of dialysis patients climbs, and more families experience the long-term costs of unmanaged chronic illness, officials say this platform offers hope and action.
To explore the site and start your personal or organizational wellness journey, visit redloud.bvihsa.vg. to explore and share the center with those they serve. As demand for dialysis continues to rise and more residents are impacted by preventable chronic illness, this platform is a timely and vital step forward in building a healthier Virgin Islands.
