The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of Maintenance Officer (Electrician). The Maintenance Officer (Electrician) is responsible for assisting with the routine maintenance and repairs of the hospital facilities, equipment and its surroundings. This role helps ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of clinical services by maintaining the efficient functioning of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
Primary Responsibilities
The ideal candidate for the Maintenance Officer (Electrician) position will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on electrical systems, equipment, and infrastructure within the hospital. They will assist with implementing and following preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring all electrical components and systems are functioning efficiently and safely. The candidate will troubleshoot electrical faults, respond promptly to emergency maintenance calls, and conduct regular inspections to maintain operational safety and compliance with relevant electrical codes and regulations. Additionally, they will be expected to perform basic repairs to plumbing, mechanical, and other systems as needed to ensure the continuous smooth operation of the facility.
Furthermore, the candidate will be tasked with assembling, installing, and repairing electrical wiring and electronic components, as well as maintaining and repairing biomedical and plant equipment. They will be responsible for ensuring that the entire facility, including physical structures and equipment, is always prepared for daily use and that utility supplies are maintained at adequate levels. The ideal candidate will also perform manual duties such as moving supplies or furniture and replacing light bulbs, while contributing to the overall safety and functionality of the hospital environment through diligent inspections and maintenance activities.
Qualification and Experience
The successful candidate should possess a High School Certificate or have completed two years of training at a vocational or technical institution. Alternatively, they may have a minimum of five years of trade experience with a High School Certificate or at least three years of trade experience specifically in electrical maintenance, complemented by vocational or technical training. The candidate must hold a valid Class B Electrician License or Certification, or a Class C license with a willingness to upgrade. Relevant knowledge should include electrical systems, controls, safety procedures, and compliance with electrical codes and regulations. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate skills in basic carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and other trades, with the ability to work independently and efficiently in a healthcare setting.
