The Environmental Services (Housekeeping) Manager organizes, supervises, coordinates, and controls the activities of the Environmental Services Unit and is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitary condition of the hospital. The ideal candidate for the Environmental Services (Housekeeping) Manager position will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of environmental services management to ensure the hospital maintains the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and infection control. They will develop, evaluate, and implement departmental policies, procedures, and standards to optimize operational efficiency and patient safety. The candidate will manage inventory control programs, monitor budgets, and oversee procurement activities, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. They will coordinate regular cleaning schedules, including floor care, linen management, and the maintenance of cleaning equipment, while ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations. Additionally, they will lead and motivate staff, facilitate departmental meetings, resolve staff concerns, and foster a team environment that promotes high performance and customer satisfaction. The candidate will also participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection prevention programs, and stay current with industry best practices through ongoing professional development.
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution, with 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in healthcare housekeeping or the hotel industry, coupled with management and supervisory experience. Certifications such as the Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) or a Certificate in Cleaning Services and Infection Control Cleaning are preferred. They should have comprehensive knowledge of regulatory standards, infection control techniques, and safety codes applicable to healthcare environments. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to work under pressure, exercise good judgment, and maintain confidentiality. The candidate must also be physically capable of lifting supplies and equipment, with the flexibility to perform routine physical tasks required in a healthcare setting.
