The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of Maintenance Officer. The Maintenance Officer is responsible for assisting with the routine maintenance and repairs of the hospital facilities, equipment and its surroundings. This role helps ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of clinical services by maintaining the efficient functioning of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.

Primary Responsibilities

The ideal candidate for the Maintenance Officer position will be responsible for assisting with routine maintenance and repairs across all hospital facilities, ensuring that electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems function efficiently and safely. They will perform preventative maintenance tasks based on manufacturer recommendations, troubleshoot and repair electrical faults, and carry out basic repairs to plumbing, heating, and cooling systems. Additionally, they will maintain the hospital’s grounds and landscaping to ensure a neat appearance, oversee the stocking and maintenance of medical gas cylinders, and respond promptly to emergency maintenance calls to minimize downtime and disruptions in hospital operations. The candidate will also be expected to perform manual tasks such as moving supplies and fixtures and assist in maintaining compliance with safety standards and regulations.

Qualification and Experience

The successful candidate should have a High School Certificate or have completed two years of training at a vocational or technical institution. Alternatively, they should have at least five years of trade experience, with three years focused on electrical maintenance, supported by vocational or technical training. A valid Class B Electrician License or Certification is required, or a Class C license with a willingness to upgrade. They should possess practical skills in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and electrical systems, along with the ability to work independently and efficiently under limited supervision. Experience in maintaining biomedical and plant equipment, along with manual skills for basic repairs and groundskeeping, is highly desirable. The candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of safety protocols, electrical codes, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Job Summary

Salary Range:

$27,216.00 – $35,376.00 per annum
