The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of Registered Nurse (Community Health). Responsible for managing the Client /patient care by promoting and restoring client ‘ health through the nursing process; collaborating with multidisciplinary health team members; providing physical and psychological support to clients, families and communities; The RN is responsible to the Public Health Nurse Manager for the assigned Zone.
Primary Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating comprehensive patient care by developing personalized care plans, conducting various clinics such as child health, immunization, and chronic disease management, and ensuring adherence to medical standards to deliver high-quality healthcare. They will perform assessments, investigations, and emergency procedures like IV access and phlebotomy, while accurately documenting all client interactions and maintaining confidentiality. Additionally, the candidate will manage immunization programs, monitor cold chain logistics, and assist with outreach activities, ensuring vaccines are stored and administered correctly. They will also be tasked with surveillance duties, including reporting disease trends, collecting data, and responding to public health concerns, along with maintaining detailed health records and preparing reports.
Further responsibilities include supervising junior staff, promoting team collaboration, and managing medical supplies and inventory to ensure smooth clinic operations. The candidate will actively participate in meetings and training sessions, contribute to clinical research, and stay current with professional development to enhance their expertise. Flexibility to be reassigned within primary healthcare areas and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies are also essential. Overall, the role demands a proactive, detail-oriented professional committed to delivering excellent community health services through collaborative teamwork, continuous learning, and diligent record-keeping.
Qualification and Experience
The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or an Associate Degree in Nursing, along with at least two years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a community health setting. They must be licensed and registered with the General Nursing Council of the British Virgin Islands and hold valid licenses in their country of origin. Additionally, they should be BLS certified and trained. The candidate must demonstrate a solid understanding of nursing theories, procedures, and standards, with the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care programs, perform assessments and triage, and develop educational initiatives. Strong knowledge of current health issues and trends, combined with sound decision-making skills, is essential.
Further requirements include the ability to maintain infection control standards and ensure safety in clinical environments, along with physical endurance to handle moderate activity, including home visits and standing for extended periods. The work environment is typical of healthcare facilities, involving exposure to blood and potentially hazardous materials, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols. Flexibility to work twelve-hour shifts and travel across various community clinics is necessary to provide comprehensive community health services. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, safety-conscious, and capable of functioning effectively in a dynamic, community-based healthcare setting.
