BVI Health Services Authority – CEO WELCOME SPEECH
Good morning. Protocols are observed as established by our Master of Ceremony. It is indeed my pleasure to welcome you all today to Peebles Hospital as we come together to recognize and celebrate the many businesses, non-governmental organizations, churches and individuals who have willingly given both money and services towards the completion and development of Peebles Hospital and by extension the BVI Health Services Authority. To you all I say Thank You, thank you, thank you. I always treasure such moments when I can publically say thank you, for our celebration today would not have been possible without your generosity. I also express my thanks to all staff of the BVIHSA for their work over the years and to those who worked to prepare our Lobby so beautifully for today’s special event.
In March 2014 our Minister of Health and Social Development, the Honourable Ronnie Skelton, launched the New Peebles Hospital Pledge Programme to allow persons and businesses the opportunity to donate towards Outfitting the Clinical Units/Wards, to donate toward the purchase of Major Equipment, and towards General Building Infrastructure for the Hospital. Back then the Minister rightly said that every penny counts because the Ministry of Health and by extension the Government could not do it alone, and today I am pleased to state that since then, the Pledge Programme has realized $2,373,247.09 in donations.
Those donations were put to good use to complete infrastructural works and purchase major equipment and furnishings. I am therefore indeed overjoyed, that through the foresight of the Minister of Health and through your collective unprecedented support and cooperation, and the overall kindness of our Donors, that we are all here today to witness and be part of this historic unveiling ceremony.
And guess what – the giving has not ended – as today we have our friends of Scotia Bank with another cheque based on their three years commitment and ongoing philanthropic works for the expansion of our new Paediatric Ward. Over the three years a total of $98,375 was realized. I take this opportunity to welcome Mr. Olanzo Boynes on behalf of Scotia Bank BVI, and invite the Honourable Minister of Health and our new Chairman of the Board to receive the cheque on behalf of the Paediatric Ward of Peebles Hospital.
I close by thanking everyone who encouraged us in one way or the other and contributed towards the realization of our Donor Wall project.
