History of Peebles Hospital

Major Peebles

Major Peebles

In 1922, the Virgin Islands opened a two-room hospital in Road Town, Tortola called the Cottage Hospital. Eventually it was renamed after the founder, Major Peebles who helped countless persons in their time of need.

With the assistance of volunteers and the generosity of the people through donations in the form of supplies, service and money over the decades, our healthcare services developed to what they are today.

Over the years, the external works of the New Peebles Hospital

Original Peebles Hospital formerly known as Cottage Hospital

have been completed at a high standard. Now we need your generosity to ensure that the hospital is outfitted with the state of the art equipment and technology that will offer the highest standard of affordable quality health care services in the Territory.

On 31st October, 2013 the Minister of Health and Social Development Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton accepted the keys to the new state-of-the-art Peebles Hospital making a major milestone for Virgin Islands health care. From our very humble beginnings, we as a Territory can celebrate these accomplishments because we did it together.

Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton presents the keys to BVIHSA Chairman John Cline at The Hand Over Ceremony for the New Peebles Hospital

Why Should You Give?

A project of this magnitude could not be possible without the continued support of the entire community. The Ministry of Health and Social Development and the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) have developed the New Peebles Hospital Pledge Programme to accept and process all donations towards outfitting the New Peebles Hospital.

Whatever you can give is greatly needed and appreciated. From major equipment needed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or a wheelchair for the maternity ward, we gladly accept it.
