NEW TAC PRESS Release Urologist

The British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) is pleased to announce that the Health Authority is exploring the possibilities of permanently offering new physician specialty clinics specifically for patients needing urological and neurosurgical services.

The BVIHSA is offering Urology and Neurosurgical clinics that will take place on 3rd November from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Persons in need of these services or know someone who are in need of either service, are kindly asked to contact the Medical Services Unit at 852-7518 or 852-7514 to make an appointment or obtain further information.

Urology is a branch of medicine that focuses on medical diseases of the male and female urinary tract systems and male reproductive organs which may include surgical treatment options. The Urology Clinic will treat patients experiencing enlarged prostates, prostate cancer, erectile dysfunction, testicular pain, blood in urine, urinary discomfort or abnormal symptoms, urinary incontinence, kidney stones and vasectomy procedures.

The Urology Clinic will be conducted by Dr. Michael D. Fabrizio, who is board certified by the American Board of Urology and the National Board of Medical Examiners and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons just to name a few of his credentials. Dr. Fabrizio earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA in 1992. He completed his residencies in surgery and urology at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.  Dr. Fabrizio specializes in urological laparoscopy for benign and malignant conditions including prostate and kidney cancer, adrenal surgery, kidney donation and complex kidney and ureteral stone surgery.

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system.

The Neurosurgical Clinic will be conducted by Dr. David Vincent who is a board certified, fellowship-trained neurosurgeon. He specializes in complex spine surgery, including degenerative disease, disc replacement, deformity, tumors including brain tumors, and trauma. Dr. Vincent is very active in advancing minimally invasive techniques by participating in ongoing clinical studies and teaches courses around the United States. Members in the community that are experiencing back pain, neck pain, sciatica, brain tumors, carpal tunnel syndromes are encouraged to sign up for the Neurosurgical Clinic that will take place next week.

Dr. Fabrizio and Dr. Vincent are part of The Atlantic Clinic (TAC) group that conducted the first medical tourism case at Peebles Hospital in June of this year. The partnership between the BVIHSA and The Atlantic Clinic group is expected to be facilitated in several phases.  Phase one will allow for the Atlantic Clinic’s patients to travel to the BVI for care and phase two will make provisions for BVI patients to receive care from the specialist group.

The Urology Clinic and Neurosurgical Clinics will be held next Thursday, 3rd November at the BVIHSA Outpatient Specialty Clinic. These two services are categorized as high level advanced medical services that can assist local patients with obtaining treatment options within the Territory.  The BVIHSA is strongly inviting and encouraging persons in the community that are in need of these services to make an appointment right away by calling the Medical Services Unit at 852-7518 or 852-7514.

The BVIHSA and TAC partnership is aimed at providing quality and accessible advanced medical treatment options for the British Virgin Islands community.   The potential new clinics are intended to provide a broad range of specialty services for persons suffering with exceptional medical conditions.'
