Thursday, May 1 – The Incredible Race will be one of the highlights of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Month celebrated throughout the month of May.
The Community Mental Health Centre within the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority will be celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month under the theme: “Mind Your Health” with a variety of activities, educational sessions, and community appearances.
On Saturday, May 17th at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park the Community Mental Health Centre will hold its annual Family Fun Day and Incredible Race.
The Incredible Race is an event loosely based on the Emmy Award winning CBS hit, ‘The Amazing Race’, which is a competition with teams of four people who have a pre-existing personal relationship.
Participants are expected to foster relationships that support each other during the competition’s physical and mental challenges. Co-workers, family members, friends, club members, church members, etc. will race around Tortola contending with other teams to strive to arrive first at “Pit Stops” and at the end of each leg of the race they will win prizes.
The Incredible Race will begin at 7:00 a.m. at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park where teams will get their directions and clues to their first exciting challenge. From there they will race around the island in an effort to conquer amazing feats of physical and mental contests. Failure to complete each leg of the race before your opponents will result in being eliminated from the race.
The competition which is expected to have more thrills this year is aimed to test participants’ mental and physical endurance while fostering camaraderie and team spirit, thus creating lasting memories while heightening the community’s awareness of Mental Health and Wellness.
While several teams have already registered, the registration deadline is Monday, May 5th. The Registration fee for the Incredible Race is $200.00 cash, $50.00 per team member. All proceeds will be used to provide the most vulnerable in our community with the essentials that will cater to their health and daily living. The Incredible Race will be aired on JTV Channel 55.
The day will also feature a Family Fun Day at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park beginning at 11:00 a.m. with face painting, glitter tattoos, games, a mini-health fair, and music by DJ Dre.
