Thursday, March 5th – On Tuesday 3rd March 2015 the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority’s Social Services Unit received a cheque donation of $10,000 towards the purchasing of a new vehicle for the unit.
The Director of Hospital Services, Mrs. Cedorene Malone-Smith and the Social Services Manager Mrs. Marion Turnbull accepted the donation on behalf of the unit from the Medical Air Services Association (MASA).
MASA’s Transport Director, Mr. Dusty Cook expressed that for 20 years they have been working generally with case management (Social Services Unit) and wanted to give their contribution of $10,000 to assist in the purchase of a vehicle that might help service the island. Mr. Cook also urged other organizations to take after their lead and donate to the hospital.
The Social Services Manager, Mrs. Turnbull expressed her gratitude for the contribution and stated that the contribution would be put to use when the vehicle is purchased to help their patients/clients through their community visits.
The Social Services Unit provides Counseling that includes grief and loss, dialysis Unit support groups, patient advocacy, discharge planning, medical evacuation, ward rounds, elder / spousal / child / abuse intervention, long and short term care planning in collaboration with MD’s; Geriatric/ Oncology/ Nephrology Specialists, case managers, and other internal and external agencies.
