Dr. Joel Stevens is a native of the British Virgin Islands and a Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon. He attended Virgin Islands Secondary School (1961) then later went on to do further studies at Long Island University, New York, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree. He later obtained his medical (MD) from Howard University College of Medicine, Washington D.C. (1972). He completed post graduate training in general surgery at Howard University (1972 – 1977) and subsequently specialized in Transplantation and Vascular Access at Howard University and the University of Minnesota (1977 – 1979).
He is certified by the American Board of Surgery since 1979, and is a member of several professional organizations including; American College of Surgeons, American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the Vascular Access Society of the Americas.
Dr. Stevens is an Attending Surgeon at Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C. since 1984, and was Attending Surgeon at MedStar Washington Hospital Center from 1984 to 2015. Dr. Stevens was Assistant Professor of Surgery at Howard University from 1979 to 1984 and is a Consultant for Vascular Access at Peebles Hospital, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, since 2006.
He was president of the medical staff at Providence Hospital, past president of the Howard University Medical Alumni Association and a past member of the board of governors at H.L. Stoutt Community College. Dr. Stevens is a member of the Board of Directors of the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority.
He is a family man and enjoys spending time with his wife and children.
