Scotiabank’s Managing Director Mr. Jason Waters and several senior bank officials met with the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority’s (BVIHSA) Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Darlene Carty Baptiste, the Director of Hospital Services/Operations Mrs. Cedorene Malone-Smith and members of the BVIHSA fundraising committee several times during the months of August and September to solidify a fundraising partnership that will span the next three years.
The Managing Director informed the BVIHSA team that the bank will donate $15,000 annually over the next three years, totaling $45,000, and will co-host several local fundraising initiatives to help generate additional funds to aid the Pediatric Ward.
Mr. Waters stated that “Scotiabank is committed to supporting the communities in which we live and work and Peebles Hospital has been a cornerstone of the BVI since it first opened in 1922.”
He added, “Every member of our community is directly or indirectly impacted by the ability to have strong, reliable health care. We hope that by funding equipment for the Pediatric Ward of Peebles Hospital we will help provide high-level and accessible health care to the children, ensuring a bright future for all members of the BVI community.”
At one meeting Mrs. Carty Baptiste said, that “We are very humbled by the community support being generated, as a project of this magnitude requires a tremendous amount of support and this partnership is helping to build a sustainable health care system for everyone.”
In addition to the annual donation, Scotiabank (BVI) Limited in collaboration with the BVIHSA will host a 5k Walk/Run fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, 1st November.
The registration cost is $25.00 for adults and children under 12 years of age are free. The first 100 persons to register will receive prizes complement of Scotiabank and other corporate sponsors.
