The British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has appointed Ms. Mozelle A. Paul as Legal Counsel.

Ms. Paul was appointed early June, 2015 and has experience in the practice of law within the health sector having been the Legal Consultant/Legal Advisor at the Tobago Regional Health Authority, Trinidad and Tobago. Her roles as the Legal Consultant were to provide legal advice and services within various areas of law on a wide range of issues including medico-legal matters, contract, employment, industrial relations, public law and professional liability. She also co-ordinated the internal employee disciplinary tribunal process and managed the administration of the Freedom of Information Act applications.

Ms. Paul obtained the Legal Education Certificate (L.E.C.), Council of Legal Education from Hugh Wooding Law School in St. Augustine, Trinidad in 2009. She also completed a Bachelor of Laws L.L.B. She has also held the positions of Legal Officer within the Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development and Legal Officer within the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development within the Legal Services Unit for the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Legal Counsel within the BVIHSA will provide legal advice and direction as it pertains to the development of policies and interpretation of local, regional and international regulations; determine actions to be taken to originate or respond to legal proceedings; review pending and new legislation affecting the BVIHSA interests; assess the impact on the agency and recommend actions as appropriate; and represent the BVIHSA in all legal matters.

The Legal Counsel supports the strategic development and plans for the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority towards becoming the preferred provider of health care in the Virgin Islands.
