Caribbean Insurers Marketing Director Ms. Simone Monsanto, who serves as the main contact person for the event said “The BVI Soap Box Derby is a family event. We want fathers and sons and family members to build their Soap Box car together and come out on October 19th to support the children who will be the drivers. We have also made the entrance fee minimal at three dollars for children and five dollars for adults because we want to entire community to come out.”
The British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority has also registered for the event and the Facilities Management Unit has built a Soap Box car out of scrap lumber and supplies left over at Peebles Hospital.
The BVIHSA Associate Director of Infrastructure and Building Engineer Mr. Allan Penn expressed that “We as a Unit work very hard to ensure that the hospital and clinics infrastructure are supported as needed. We do a lot of behind the scene work that many would never be aware of and when I told the Unit about this wonderful fundraiser they jumped to the opportunity to enter a Soap Box car on behalf of Health Services. We are excited and we are looking forward to seeing the families and the other entries because it’s all for a great cause.”
All proceeds from the BVI Soap Box Derby will be presented as a donation to aid in outfitting the new Peebles Hospital.
Other activities include prize giveaways, dunking tanks, music, food and a bouncy castle.
